Sun burn is not the only damage caused by sun exposure, but something deeper and more dangerous ? DNA is damaged as well.
The protection that the three layers of the skin provides is determined by the DNA ? much like a computer program. If the DNA is damaged, the cells do not perform properly. This accelerates skin aging and increases the risk of skin cancer.
Damage by the sun is caused primarily by ultraviolet rays, which is invisible. UVB rays cause sunburn, and some skin cancers as it penetrates the top layer of the skin. UVA rays cause long-term effects such as discoloration and wrinkling, as it penetrates the deeper layers of the skin.
