Bioflavonoids, also known as vitamin P, are found in citrus fruits and other foods with vitamin C, and other medicinal plants such as gingko biloba. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiallergenic, antiviral and anti-carcinogenic properties, that is why it is used in vitamin supplements and skin care products. Bioflavonoids enhance the absorption of vitamin C. It also prevents the oxidation of vitamin C, thus maximizing the vitamin’s benefits. Since bioflavonoids are not naturally found or produced by the human body, it should be taken through supplements and topical products.
Skin care products have been using vitamin C with bioflavonoids for skin whitening and protection from free radicals.
